CMM 225- Theor/Concept – What is a Soundscape?

A soundscape is a group of sounds that describes a location or setting. It includes all of the noises in a place, both natural and man-made, and how they change over time. While a landscape is something we see, a soundscape is the sound version of that.

A sound mark is a distinctive or well-known sound in a community, much like a landmark has visual value. One sound mark for me, for example, is the chime of the clock tower in my old neighborhood. It’s a sound I was raised with that triggers memories in addition to telling the time.
