Penn Men’s Basketball Streak Hits Five Losses with Defeat at Brown

The Quakers hoped to finish the road trip weekend in a better mood after their match against Brown, following a heartbreaking close game against Yale the previous evening. However, the Penn men’s basketball team lost to Brown 82-72 without ever taking the lead.  “I thought we were just very inconsistent on the defensive end and, at times, on the offensive end,” coach Steve Donahue said. “[We were] just not playing up [to] how well you have to play to win on the road.” The Quakers (6-16, 2-7 Ivy) battled to keep up with Brown in an intense first half, but they could not overtake the Bears (12-10, 4-5), and they…

    CMM 225- Theor/Concept – What is a Soundscape?

A soundscape is a group of sounds that describes a location or setting. It includes all of the noises in a place, both natural and man-made, and how they change over time. While a landscape is something we see, a soundscape is the sound version of that. A sound mark is a distinctive or well-known sound in a community, much like a landmark has visual value. One sound mark for me, for example, is the chime of the clock tower in my old neighborhood. It’s a sound I was raised with that triggers memories in addition to telling the time.

Penn Shuts Down DEI Website in Response to Executive Order

As the most recent in several actions to eliminate mentions of equity initiatives, policies, and practices on University websites, Penn has wiped the main Diversity and Inclusion website. The website, now called “Belonging at Penn,” shut down all of its content on February 14th, including demographic information, student affinity groups, and details about academic inclusion initiatives. A brief three-sentence statement regarding Penn’s “commitment to equal opportunity” can be found on the updated website. “We have initiated a review of our programs in this area to ensure that they are both consistent with the new federal government guidance and Executive Orders, federal, state, and local law, and our values,” the website…

NCAAs Affirms Ban on Transgender Athletes in Women’s Sports:

After President Donald Trump signed an order banning transgender athletes from women’s sports, the NCAA made a policy change on Thursday after their Board of Governors had voted to update the policy following the order. That decision was effective immediately, officially limiting women’s sports to strictly only biological female athletes. Student-athletes who are biologically male or student-athletes who have started hormones are now prohibited from being in competitions on an NCAA women’s team. However, the policy does allow transgender women or females who have begun hormones to practice on a women’s NCAA team. The policy also states that “regardless of sex assigned at birth of gender identity, a student-athlete may…
